Terms & Conditions

Terms and Conditions

By booking on any of our courses or accommodation you agree to abide by our terms and conditions. We reserve the right to make minor amendments to the Cookery Courses content and

What's included:
Ingredients, utensils, knives, equipment and aprons are provided for all courses. Some meals are included in the course cost - please see appropriate course details for further information.

What's not included:
Prices do not include accommodation. Please refer to our website or brochure for accommodation details and prices.

Application requirements:
You must be 18 years or over to attend all our cookery courses with the exception of our five-day Beginners courses where you must be over 16 years old to attend.

Skill Levels:
If you are unsure as to your skill requirements for a course, please phone us so we can help ascertain your level of experience before booking. We rely on students being able to self assess their own skill level and are happy to assist with this but cannot be held liable if you book a course much higher or lower than your actual skill level. Please call us on (01364) 652784 if you are in doubt.

Health & Safety:
All participants should wear shoes with flat, non-slip soles and covered toes, preferably leather. We cannot admit you to the cookery school without proper footwear. We recommend wearing sensible clothing ie not your best outfit - we are not liable for any damage that occurs to clothing. Long hair must be tied back in the kitchen. All course participants will receive a short briefing on health and safety before commencing the course as well as a printed handout to take with them.

Special dietary requirements, food allergies & illness:
We are unable to tailor our course content for special dietary requirements unless you are booking a minimum of 10 places on the course. However, we will be happy to discuss course content beforehand to allow you to make your own alternative eating arrangements if necessary. There is no reduction in fee in this instance.

Please inform us in advance of any allergies, disabilities, diabetes, pregnancy, epilepsy, learning difficulties etc.

Certificated Courses

5 Day Cookery Courses and our 20 Day Diploma course offer a certificate upon successful completion of a course. Successful completion of a course is determined by the Chef Tutors based on a minimum rate of attendence, learning progress and attitude. Certificates are issued at the descretion of the Chef Tutors. Please note, to maintain the value of our course certificates, students that have a partial attendence record will find that reflected on their course certificate.

Payment:

One, Two and Five Day Courses: All payments should be made in full at the time of booking for both the Cookery Course and for the accommodation where appropriate. We do not take provisional bookings and cannot confirm your place on a course or for accommodation until we receive full payment.

Diploma Course: a non-refundable deposit of £500 must be paid at time of booking to secure a place on the course. The full balance of course and accommodation must be received six weeks before the course start date. Failure to do so may result in your losing your place on the course and retention of your deposit. We very occasionally have last-minute cancellations and special offers - these may be at a reduced fee. Please contact us for details.

Cheques should be made payable to:
Ashburton Cookery School
and sent to Admin, Old Exeter Road, Ashburton, Devon TQ13 7LG.

We accept also Mastercard/Visa Credit Cards and Switch/Solo/Maestro Cards.

Cancellations & Refunds Policy

Our standard 21 day cancellation policy applies to all Cookery, Wine Courses bookings and Accommodation.

Standard 21 day cancellation policy

Cancellaitons more than 21 days from of the start of your course:

This means that you may request a change of course dates up to 21 days of the start of the course and we will happily transfer you to another date, or course subject to availability.

You may also request a refund up to 21 days of the start of the course you have booked. Please note there is an administration and handling charge for course cancellations to offset the costs incurred as follows:

Course Cancellation Fee
1 & 2 Day Courses £15 Fee
5 Day Courses £35 Fee
Diploma Non-refundable deposit

Cancellations within 21 days of the start of your course:

Most bookings for courses at the Ashburton Cookery School and Ashburton Wine School are made many months in advance. It is therefore hard for us to resell any places within 21 days of the start of the course date, and any cancellations within this time can result in lost revenue that affect the ability of the Cookery School and the Wine School to deliver quality courses.

If you cancel your booking within 21 days of the start of your cookery or wine course and we are unable to resell your place in the time remaining, you will forfeit any course fees and accommodation associated with your booking. We recommend travel insurance for all students that will cover your costs in the event of you being unable to attend your course. Click here for details of our low cost insurance option.

Gift Vouchers

Refunds are not available on gift voucher purchases, nor can Gift Vouchers be exchanged for cash or other goods. Gift vouchers are transferable, so if you are unable to make your course, you make contact us to nominate a replacement.

Travel Insurance is strongly recommended:

We strongly recommend taking out appropriate travel insurance to cover you in the event that you cannot make your course.

Corporate 60 Day Cancellation Policy

Corporate bookings that reserve the use of a whole kitchen for the course of their choosing are subject to a 60 day cancellation policy.
If the booking is cancelled within 60 days of the start date, we will reschedule the date with a retail course and offer this up to our retail market - however, any places thar remain unsold at the start of the rescheduled course (up to £145 per person per day) will be deducted at the standard retail rate from your booking fee to reflect the lost revenue caused by the cancellation.

Dining Club 10 Day Cancellation Policy

Bookings for the Dining Club are secured by full payment. We operate a 10 day cancellation policy on Dining Club bookings.

Cancellations more than 10 days before the event

If you wish to cancel your booking more than 10 days before the event date booked, you may request a free transfer your booking to a future Dining Club date.
If you wish to cancel the booking and request a refund, a £5 administration fee per booking will be deducted.

Cancellations within 10 days of the event

Within 10 days of the event you are unable to request a transfer to a future date. If you wish to cancel, we will offer your place up for resale. If we are able to resell your place, we will refund you in full less an administration charge of £5. If we are unable to resell your place and did not attend, you would forfeit the full cost of the booking, however your booking is transferable, and you may nominate a replacement guest upon contacting us.

Cancellations by Ashburton Cookery School:

In the unlikely event of cancellation by ourselves, we undertake to provide a suitable alternative within a reasonable period of time. If this is not possible, and it is not possible for a claim to be made for insurance, we undertake to make an immediate full refund for course or accommodation fees.
